Design of the new boat

The new vessel has been designed by marine architect, Chris Williams, conforming with the traditional lines of the previous paddlesteamers on Lake Wendouree. It has an aluminium hull with a timber deck. It is diesel powered and has a hydraulic drive system to the paddles.

The State of the Lake

The return of water to the Lake in recent years was matched by extraordinary growth in water plants. An extensive weed cutting program was instituted and the rampant growth has now been largely managed.

With the weed now broadly under control, there are no environmental barriers to the boat resuming operation on the Lake.
